We believe that good consulting services start at the front end by:

– Learning about your project’s objectives and sampling methods
– Developing custom tailored protocols to meet the project’s objectives
– Confirming each protocol with each client

Cigdem Alemdar, is the founder and taxonomist of Alemdar Consulting. She has over 12 years of experience in phytoplankton and zooplankton taxonomy. She accumulated this experience throughout her former employment in academia and in private sector. CV

Ms. Alemdar was employed between 1998-2008 at the University of California, Davis at Department of Environmental Science & Policy and Department of Wildlife Fish & Conservation Biology. She was part of Prof. Charles Goldman and Prof. Peter Moyle’s research groups to perform taxonomic identification of phytoplankton, microzooplankton and mesozooplankton in microbial food web studies as well as in long term ecological monitoring programs conducted in conjunction with state and federal agencies. To identify plankton on a wide variety of ecosystems from lake to river, estuary, flood plain..etc. allowed Ms. Alemdar to broaden her knowledge and made her one of the sought-after taxonomists especially on long term monitoring projects where accuracy and consistency is crucial. In private sector Ms. Alemdar worked at Tenera Environmental as a consultant/taxonomist between 2008-2011 managing Department of Water Resources on going zooplankton taxonomy related projects.

Ms. Alemdar decided to initiate this company because San Francisco Bay Area needed a firm whose expertise and core services are plankton taxonomy. Misidentifications and unreliable data sets due to unexperienced technicians are common problems in private industry. Ms. Alemdar is committed to providing precise analysis combined with reliable and consistent data sets  in an efficient way.

Ms. Alemdar has also been involved in a scientific community to contribute her knowledge. While at the University of California, Davis she trained numerous researchers and graduate students in phytoplankton and zooplankton taxonomy from state agencies and universities.

Ms. Alemdar is very enthusiastic about her job and always fascinated by microscopic world. She especially enjoys experimenting new techniques in digital imaging. Besides her passion for her job Ms. Alemdar enjoys cooking and wind-surfing in San Francisco Bay.
